Remembering meliton pinedaIt is with a heavy heart that we pass alongthe tragic news that our co-worker andfriend Meliton Pineda passed away onSaturday, January 2 at the age of 56. He hadalmost 14 years of service with UCSB as acustodian on the 2:00 am crew.Meliton Pineda Flores came to Santa Barbarafrom Mayanal%u00e1n, Mexico, when he was 18years old. He met his wife, Cecilia, whileworking at a grocery store. He needed a newplace to live, and she offered him a smallroom. They fell in love, got married, andraised five daughters together.By all accounts, Meliton was always happyand with a smile on his face. He was avaluable co-worker and a better friend, andhe is deeply missed.On January 26, 2021 the United States flag onthe UC Santa Barbara campus was flown athalf-staff in honor and remembrance ofMeliton.
