Bahl%u00a0 Associate Vice Chancellor%u00a0%u00a0IT IS WITH GREAT PLEASURE that I share our Design, Facilities andSafety Services (DFSS) Annual Report for FY 2023. DFSS departments include:%u2022 Business and Financial Planning. BFP provides financial andhuman resource support to all DFSS units for capital, operating andmaintenance projects totaling over $200 million and 350 FTEpositions. %u2022 Design and Construction Services. DCS represents the Universityin all aspects of capital development and improvement with the goalof creating quality, efficient, safe and sustainable facilities respectfulof the region%u2019s unique and sensitive environment.%u2022 Environmental Health and Safety. EHS provides guidance andservices to the campus community to promote the integration ofhealth, safety, and environmental stewardship to all Universityactivities.%u2022 Facilities Management. FM provides operations and maintenanceservices to the core campus. Its focus is on the state-supported,general-funded buildings and infrastructure including 4 milliongross square feet and over 260 acres of grounds while maintainingthe energy needs of the campus in a sustainable manner.In DFSS we aim to work seamlessly to provide needed support toenhance UC Santa Barbara%u2019s education and research mission. FiscalYear 2023 was a year full of accomplishments and initiatives whichyou will read about in the ensuing pages. We continue to make great progress on becoming a moresustainable campus as the Chancellor established a DecarbonizationStudy Project Committee to work on a plan to reduce emissionsfrom fossil gas use and address climate justice. Additionally, ournewest capital project %u2013 the Interactive Learning Pavilion %u2013 added2,000 additional seats for instruction, is all electric and openedSpring quarter 2023. You will read more about both of these projectlater in this report. Our achievements, planned and unplanned, are due to our tenets ofcustomer service, telling our story, and a valued workforce.We strive to provide excellent customer service through relationshipbuilding, communication, and technology. Our customer servicethis year was exemplified through our continued work on campuswhether we were meeting in-person or virtually. We re-engagedwith the campus community to focus on in-person trainings after aCOVID pause to ensure our work and living environments are safe.We work as one DFSS team to tell our story about our excellent workto be the pride of UC Santa Barbara. We lead collaborationmeetings with campus partners, meet regularly with stakeholdersto receive feedback and share successes, and develop tools toimprove our customers%u2019 understanding of what we do and how wecan help. In DFSS we also tell our story by what you see, not whatyou hear. The well-maintained grounds, clean buildings, safecampus, and capital improvement projects are all about our story.We value our workforce through recognition, training, growthopportunities, and open communications so staff choose to stay inDFSS. The Acknowledging Commitment and Excellence (ACE)program recognizes DFSS staff and partners who makeextraordinary efforts on campus and are recommended by acommittee and awarded through the leadership team. Just over tenpercent of our employees received a service milestone this yearwhich represents over four centuries of service %u2013 imagine thewisdom and experience our entire division has altogether.Additionally, we added almost 50 new amazing staff members toDFSS this past year. I am grateful to be part of a team that includes such talented andcaring people. Our accomplishments would not be possible withoutevery person%u2019s support and dedication.Thank you for reading about our FY 2023 accomplishments.
